Please see ourPrivacy Noticefor details of your data protection rightsThank you for subscribingWe have more newslettersShow meSee our privacy noticeCould not subscribe, try again laterInvalid EmailTRADING Standards watchdogs based in Motherwell are warning consumers of the dangers of buying counterfeit goods during the festive period.Officers confirmed to the Wishaw Press that they have seized a whole range of fake goods over the last few weeks which, if bought, would not only disappoint but could prove hazardous to their health.They are asking people to keep an eye out now and into the January sales to avoid any seasonal hangover.Among the extensive list of counterfeit goods being sold were Ray Ban sunglasses, Gucci watches, Links of London and Pandora jewellery, Ped Eggs, Duracell batteries, Playboy clothing, Gillette razor blades, GHD hair straighteners, Henley and G Star Raw clothing, Tiffany Co jewellery, Nike, Adidas and Timberland footwear, Smirnoff vodka and Calvin Klein underwear.Dave Roderick, Trading Standards Manager for North Lanarkshire Council, stated: “Most of the goods were for sale in local retail outlets and some were being sold over the internet and, while the counterfeit clothing and jewellery may only disappoint and purchaser, the GHD electrical products could be potentially lethal given their high heat and lack of proper built in electrical safety.”We would warn any small retailers not to buy such goods from anywhere but dependable wholesalers. We will report traders, whatever their size, to the Procurator Fiscal under Trade Marks and Consumer Protection legislation should they prove to be negligent or reckless in supplying unsafe or fake goods.”The fake goods are discovered during routine visits to premises or as part of an ongoing internet trading project.
